I purchased my gerbils from Sunshine Gerbils in March of 2011. Willow and Wimsy (sisters) have always been so sweet and very tame. Today, they are happy and healthy, housed together in an aquarium, and they are very friendly. They love to play and gnaw on their toys, too! We had a wonderful experience buying gerbils from Sarah at Sunshine Gerbils. When we first were figuring out where to go to buy them, we had no idea where to go. When we discovered the American Gerbil Society, it took us right to Sunshine Gerbils and we contacted Sarah right away. She got back to us so quickly and we were thrilled to find two male gerbils. We could tell from her web site that she takes great care of her gerbils and knows a great deal about them! When we made arrangements to drive to her house and pick them up, she came out of her house with a t-shirt that said “Gerbils ate my homework,” so we knew we were getting our newest pets from someone who really cared for them.
Sarah gave us great guidance and advice when we picked up the gerbils, and we even purchased one of her wheels and base, and that has been fantastic and sturdy. I know also that if I ever had any questions for her about the care of our gerbils, I could contact her for advice.

All of them had clean fur, no bald spots, they were not skinny, and when she would put her hand in the cage they would hop up on her hand. We had lots of questions and Sarah answered all of them! We found Sunshine Gerbils through the American Gerbil Society website in Summer 2010. We needed a friend for one of our gerbils, since the older one had passed away. Our new gerbil from Sarah at Sunshine Gerbils was hand tamed, and got along very well with our older gerbil at home. This summer, we came back for another gerbil for the same reason. Our two Sunshine Gerbils (who happen to be Aunt and Niece to each other) are best friends, and so curious and cute. All of the gerbils that we met at Sunshine Gerbils were very tame, friendly, healthy, and live in very clean cages with plenty of entertainment.

She was gracious in her email responses, sending me many pictures and answering my endless questions. She also gave me a discount for having bought three gerbils. I was originally planning to get only 2 females (having read about the risks in putting more than two together), but after Sarah reassured me that having three females would be safe since they had been raised together, I decided to give it a shot. I'd fallen in love with all three. Two were sisters, and one from another litter, about a week older than the other two. In the year that I've had them, they haven't fought once. They do wrestle for fun for a few seconds here and there, but that's it. They get a long great, and it's always a joy seeing them snuggled together as they sleep. All three are still very healthy, and they came to me tamed and friendly. If looking for healthy, happy gerbils from a helpful and reliable breeder, look no further!
I was at first skeptical if I'd enjoy having gerbils. I live in an apartment where only caged animals are allowed, and so I had had a hamster and two rats in the past. I absolutely loved the personality and intelligence of the rats (like having miniature puppies), but found I was incredibly allergic and had to find them a new home. The hamster was cute, but didn't seem to acknowledge my existence at all and wasn't much fun to interact with. It really just did its own thing regardless of whether I was there or not. When getting the gerbils, I'd been worried that they'd be more like the hamster, kind of a boring pet. I was wrong!! Each of my three girls have a distinct personality, and their antics are so funny to watch. They are incredibly active, and quite aware that there's a world outside of their tank. They love crawling up my arm and perching on my shoulder and getting attention while they look at the world around them. Also, unlike my other great concern, I have yet to have any real allergic reaction to them. If I get scratched when handling them, I occasionally become itchy in that area, but that's it. Nothing like the reactions I had with the rats which included asthma, stuffy nose, hives, etc.
The gerbils have been a wonderful addition to our family, and I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a relatively low cost and low hassle pet they wish to interact with. For children able to safely handle small critters, I'd say gerbils would be perfect. They real are very entertaining! Give them a wheel, paper towel, or a paper towel roll and watch them go!

They are a lot smarter than you would think. I remember seeing Flash and Dash is really like his father. He can jump a couple feet in the air and is always on the go.
